If you are a foreign passport holder who does not reside in Turkey, you can get tax refunds for certain purchases you made in Turkey from the VAT Refund office located on the departures floor of Istanbul Airport.
How to get a tax refund at Istanbul Airport?
Step#1
Go to the check-in counter as usual. Take your boarding card and tell the officer that you will receive a tax refund and take only the luggage tag without giving the luggage containing the products you purchased to check-in.

If you are traveling with Turkish Airlines, go to counters G 3, 4 or 5, and for other airlines, go to counters K 25, 26 or 27. Here, follow the sign saying VAT REFUND and get in line.
At this stage, make sure that you have your boarding card, luggage tags and Tax-Free forms ready.

At this point, your documents officer will approve and take your luggage.
You can now visit the TAX REFUND office and start the refund process.
As you can see, the process can be a bit tiring. In particular, approving your documents may take time due to the long queue. That’s why we recommend that you arrive at the airport one hour earlier than you planned. Take this into consideration.
Do not worry if you will be carrying the product for which you will receive a tax refund in your cabin baggage. After passing the passport control point, you can have your documents approved at the customs point.
Where will I get the refund at Istanbul Airport?
After completing all the procedures, you can get a refund by applying to Global Exchange points when you pass to the customs area. ( Behind passport control zone )
